Last update

Just finished off the website www.fitnessfreaksnz.com, also finished off the posters and took them to get printed.

here are the finished posters:

these posters were about getting people interested and wondering about the game, our web address is simple so people can remember it and can visit the site to actually find out what it is about.

Slide-sam

Sam

My job in the group was to create most of the character content that goes into the interface of the game. The characters in the game play an important part towards the development of the user experience. They are customizable and animate.

Progress - Jeff

Its now 10.30 on Sunday morning and i am now happy with the layout of the game and have setup all of the dynamic text fields and all of the targeted areas and boxes. So now the interface and game design are finalized with just tiny tweaking to do. I can now focus purely on the coding behind the scenes. Timers and fitness calculations that sort of thing. Which is my job anyway. We also have a group meeting planned today at 1pm to sort out the presentation and get everyones stuff together into a group project. It is now time to bring the pieces of the puzzle together, into a magical piece of design and creativity.

Here is a short clip of what the game now looks like and how the data is passed around the game:

meeting sunday

hey, just letting u guys know I will be in around 1pm sunday for the meeting

Development of Final Haversack

From the prototype we had talks with people about what could be improved they said.
a band that goes around the waist
or one that goes under your arm for more stability

So after talking with these people i started making the finished haversack
it has an adjustable strap with no extra flapping end of the strap like on backpacks
fully padded lining on both pockets and inner and outer shell for comfy cushioning when you run or walk

also i used my own sling bag's adjustable strap as a reference so i could make it right.

Velcro shut pockets for security
waterproof material if you want o exercise in wet weather.

its a medium size so fits all sizes of people and doesn't look too big or too small
has the Fitness Freaks colouring for those other Fitness Freak Fanatics

light weight and comfy to wear

Jeffs Progress - Flashing it UP

I have been working on the flash side of the game and here are some development images from what i have been working on: I have been trying to polish the game into an actual game. With things like menu screens and other game like qualities.

The Main Title Screen:
A quick preloader:
The New Game Menu:And a quick screen shot of the flash file:
Must say that Silards coding is hard to follow but i have been able to work through it and clean it up abit. By the end of today i am hoping to have the new game, continue game, and options things working fully.

web site

Thanks for setting up the website Silard, it looks really good.

Are you adding a background image to it? In the mock up I used this one, but I'm sure you got better ones when we were filming...

For the forum I think there should be four sections....
1. Introductions
-Where Fitness Freaks players came come introduce themselves and meet other.
2. Hot Spots
-Peoples favourite area's in Wellington to work out/ play Fitness Freaks
3. Tips
-An area where players can come exchange work out tips
4. General Chat
-An area where the users can just talk about anything else that isn't covered in the first three categories.

Finally I have some facts to add to the site, the original information all came from the NZ Health survey (over the years).

Lack of exercise and unhealthy eating are two of the main causes of obesity

New Zealand facts

-More than half of adults in New Zealand are overweight or obese.

-60% of men and 40% of women are overweight. Of these, 20% of them are obese.

-Maori obesity is almost double that of Pakeha.

-Being overweight increases the risk of premature illness and death

-Being obese and overweight can cause many health complications such as Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and some cancers.

-Obese people have a much higher risk of premature death: In New Zealand poor nutrition or physical inactivity led to an estimated 11,000 deaths (40% of all deaths) in 1997.

-Type 2 diabetes rates are on the increase in adults: 150 million people worldwide have diabetes. 90% of whom have Type 2 diabetes.

World Wide

-More than 1 billion adults worldwide are overweight. At least 300 million are obese.

-Nearly two-thirds of the US population are overweight or obese. 20% are obese.
Obesity ranges from below 5% in China, Japan and some African countries, to 75%+ in urban Samoa.

I'm also trying to think of another name for it as Sling or Holster sounds kind of lame

possibility's are:

Satchel
Holster
Pouch
rucksack
Haversack

The Web Site

Since no one seems to be touching the website I decided to chuck it together myself, I created a message board as well, if anyone has any suggestions to what section and information to add just pass it to me so I can upload it.

Once again Sam did not give me any animations or other work that was promised 4 days ago!

Meetings

Meeting Plans...

Tuesday 14th October 12pm -Meeting to see where everyone is at and to do all the filming (if its a wet day then we will do the filming on Wednesday)

Thursday 16th October 12pm - Meeting to check where we are all at.

Sunday 19th October 12pm - Meeting to put the presentation together.

Joomla Installed

I installed joomla for Sophie onto www.fitnessfreaksnz.com

Create a character

I have been working on the create a character option, this allows people to have the ability to customize a character to their liking, or make themselves. Its important that the character is personal and that the player develops a liking to their own character and that is what is going to make the game great.

map my run

I'm not sure if this can be of any use at this stage of the project. A member of the target audience mentioned that she used the website www.mapmyrun.com to measure the distance of her runs, but looking at the website, it appears that it can be used for so much more.

The screenshot below shows how easy it is to put in your running path.

The website also keeps track of your training, you can find popular running routes with it and communicate with others who enjoy running in your area. It also has a section for up coming running races in your area.

Beta Script

This is the script from the beginning of our Beta presentation...

Here are our favourite couple, Jane and Peter.
"Hi we're Jane and Peter"

As you know Jane is in the 8% of New Zealand adults who has a gym membership. Peter on the other hand felt that going to the gym was like doing a chore, it wasn't fun, but it had to be done.... so naturally he didn't bother.

One day Peter was walking down Cuba Street and he saw a classy sticker for Fitness Freaks, wanting to know more he checked out the website, www.FitnessFreaksNZ.com. Peter found some shocking facts on the website about the general fitness level in New Zealand, for example Peter didn't know that one third of the people in New Zealand don't get their 30min of physical activity a day! This motivated him to try FitnessFreaks on his ipaq.

At first Peter found the ipaq annoying to lug round and he was forever leaving it in his bag and forgetting to activate it. Then Peter discovered the Fitness Freak sling, which was an easy and fashionable way for him to carry his ipaq while working out!

Peter found the interface of Fitness Freaks colourful and easy to use, which was good for him as he didnt play games on his ipaq much.

The character design were educational and entertaining, he discovered that the size and shape of his avatar would change depending on his physical changes.

Peter paticually enjoyed the fact that Fitness Freaks basically set goals for him, but they made it much more fun! He had to work to get his fitness level up in order to beat the bosses. It didnt take long for peter to beat the first boss, Mr.Fatty. but the second one Tabo-laba is proving to be challengin so peter must steep up his training!

Peters fitness level is quickly raising above Janes, as without realising it, he has been working out every day and enjoying it thanks to Fitness Freaks! Meanwhile Jane has only been making it to the gym a couple of times a week.
